Introduction Link to heading

I spend most of my days reading stuff, and most of that stuff is in vscode or iTerm2. So… fonts really matter to me. This article is about using the new JetBrains Mono fonts in vscode and iTerm2.

JetBrains Mono has a download link. If your laptop didn’t already do it, unzip the file. On my laptop, I ended up with ~/Downloads/JetBrainsMono-2/fonts/. You can pick and choose which ones you want to manually install or… install them all:

cd ~/Downloads/JetBrainsMono-2/fonts/
find . -type f | while read FONT; do open $FONT; done

and then click the Install Font button many many many times.

Settings -> Profiles -> Text look near the bottom for a Font section. Be cool and enable ligatures. You know you want to.

Open your settings.json whatever way is convenient for you and then:

{
  "editor.fontFamily": "'JetBrains Mono', Menlo, Monaco, 'Courier New', monospace",
  "editor.fontLigatures": true
}

Enjoy your much more readable fonts. I should probably learn enough hugo to change the font of the code snippets on this blog.
